Last night (Sept. 6), Karol G unlocked a new achievement in her career. The Colombian superstar kicked off her first-ever headlining arena tour in the U.S., the $trip Love Tour. Karol G kicked off her $trip Love Tour at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Proudly rocking her new red hair color, she opened the show with the first live performance of “Gatúbela” and even rode a flying Ferrari.
Over the past few years, Karol G has risen in the ranks in the reggaeton and Latine music scene. Her first tour for her debut album, 2017’s Unstoppable, was a club tour throughout the U.S. Last year, she worked her way up into theatres and some arenas for the tour behind the KG0516 album. Now with the $trip Love Tour, la Bichota is performing only in arenas across the country by herself, just like her Colombian cohorts J Balvin and Maluma.
The setlist for Karol G’s $trip Love Tour features hits from her three albums, Unstoppable, Ocean, and KG0516. Notably, while singing “El Makinon,” she flies around the arena in a floating Ferrari. In the fan videos where Karol G was singing “Provenza” and “MAMIII” sans Becky G, the audience sang the words loudly back to her.
This week, her new single with ex-Plan B member Maldy debuted at No. 37 on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart. During the show, Karol G also opened up about her hotly-anticipated new album. “I’m this close to releasing my album,” she said in Spanish with her fingers pinched closely together.
The fans are going wild online after seeing Karol G launch the tour. “Karol G’s $trip Love Tour is on another level. The most impressive concert. QUEEN!” wrote one fan in Spanish. “Karol G is killing it by herself. The tour se ve cabron,” wrote another fan.
The $trip Love Tour runs through the U.S. throughout Sep. and Oct. In March 2023, Karol G will bring the tour to Puerto Rico’s El Choli Coliseo.
