WATCH: Shakira Invites Her Nanny on Stage for ‘El Jefe’ Performance in Mexico City
Shakira knows how to keep her fans on their toes. On Mar. 25, the Colombian star surprised her fans as she performed alongside two surprise guests during the fourth of seven sold-out shows at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico. The guests in question? None other than Mexican-American band Grupo Frontera and her children’s nanny, Lili Melgar, immortalized in her song “El Jefe.”
Shak is making her Mexico City run nothing short of memorable. On the first sold-out date (Mar. 19), she sang a mariachi-inspired medley featuring a fan-favorite track “Ciega, Sordomuda” meshed with “El Jefe,” her collaboration with Fuerza Regida. Accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of Mariachi Gama 1000, the star sang both songs as part of her first night’s repertoire, giving her fans a special treat that highlighted música mexicana.
Yesterday (Mar. 25), the “TQG” singer continued making her historic performances special by bringing out two guests. First was Grupo Frontera to perform their hit collaboration “(Entre Paréntesis)” for the first time during the world tour. “Every day, I strive to give you something more because the Mexican audience has been so loyal, so loving, and has lifted me up every time I needed it,” Shakira told Billboard about inviting the Mexican-American group on stage. “I wanted to surprise you with something that would fill your hearts. Having them on stage today was a true privilege.”
She also invited her children’s nanny, Melgar, on stage while she performed “El Jefe,” the ska-injected música mexicana track about her ex-suegro. To give context, in the music video’s outro, Shakira revealed who the song was about by saying: “Lili Melgar / Para ti esta canción, que no te pagaron la indemnización [Lili Melgar / This song is for you, because you didn’t get severance pay].” Fast forward to yesterday, Shak alleges that the Bolivian nanny still hasn’t gotten paid. While singing the track, the star tells Melgar: “Dile la verdad. Aún sin indemnización [Tell the truth. Still without severance pay]”. Melgar then shrugs and makes a face before the two she-wolves dance together to the tune.

Up next, Shakira will perform her fifth sold-out show in Mexico City tomorrow (Mar. 27). She also released her newest heartfelt music video for “Última.”
