After teasing their collaboration earlier this week, Tainy and Karol G have released “ÚNICA” today (Nov. 20). The new joint track is the second single from the Puerto Rican hitmaker’s upcoming sophomore album.
Last Monday (Nov. 17), the Colombian pop star posted a video teasing the new collaboration. The short video featured Karol talking about a short-lived love story that lasts a lifetime. “We indulged in a life we should never have had. There was no future, but there was truth,” she said in Spanish. “In that silence after we made love, I understood that some loves only last for one night, but they remain with you forever.” The “TQG” singer was featured sporting long hair down to the floor, in a white, layered dress, alone in a grass field. Another clip showed her staring at the sea.
Fast forward to today, and we now have the full audio to listen to. “ÚNICA” features a harp that is present throughout the melancholic reggaeton tune. Inspired by artists like Florence + The Machine and Björk, the sound production oozes a reggaeton beat with synthesizers, electronic elements, and the track’s focus instrument—the harp—which shines towards the end, giving an angelic, out-of-this-world outro. Karol’s sensual vocals add her signature touch as she asks her lover to stay with her even after their relationship is over. The music video was directed by STILLZ and filmed in Malibu, CA.
This isn’t the first time Tainy and Karol have collaborated. Together, they’ve worked on songs like “Tropicoqueta,” “Mañana Será Bonito,” and “China.” “ÚNICA” marks Tainy’s second track from his upcoming sophomore album. His first collaboration, the Feid-assisted “MONSTRUO,” was an experimental reggaeton song that took his collaborator’s music and overall brand in a new direction. At the end of “MONSTRUO” eagle-eyed social media users noticed Latin Mafia’s vocals. Will the Mexican trio be featured on the album’s third single?
