El Abayarde is back! Tego Calderón is making his grand return to the music scene with the release of his new single “La Receta” (April 28).

The Puerto Rican icon officially kicked off his comeback earlier this week by opening his official TikTok account and giving us the first taste of “La Receta” with a short teaser.

The song talks about a particular woman who is exactly what the doctor prescribed. “La Receta” has that classic, early-aughts reggaeton sound that catapulted Calderón into the limelight. In the music video, directed by Alejandro Pedrosa, Calderón arrives at a golf course in Puerto Rico to play a few rounds accompanied by a few female friends. Who says golf is only for the retired?

“What? Tego Calderón is back?” wrote a fan on Twitter. “The best way to start this Friday.”

“I’m going to be unbearable now that Tego Calderón is back,” wrote another fan. “The true father of these pollitos and among the biggest figures of Afro-Caribbean music.”

“Not apologizing for the thot I’m about to become when Tego Calderon drops his new music,” wrote another enthusiastic social media user.

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Calderón reached his commercial breakthrough with the album El Abayarde in 2002. His multi-decade career spanned major hits such as “Pa’ Que Retozen,” “Metele Sazon,” and “Al Natural.” With his socially conscious music and speaking out on issues including poverty and political corruption, Calderón became one of the leading voices en el moviemiento. His contributions to the genre continue to be honored by the likes of Bad Bunny, who referenced the rapper at his Grammy performance earlier this year.

Fans who wish to get to see the legend in person can catch his headlining set at the Baja Beach Fest in Rosarito, Mexico, this August alongside Don Omar and Wisin y Yandel.
