The Linda Lindas are back with new music. On Aug. 13, the Latine-Asian rock group released their newest song “Yo Me Estreso” featuring “Weird Al” Yankovic on the accordion. “Yo Me Estreso” is part of their highly-anticipated album No Obligation, set to be released on Oct. 11.
“‘Yo Me Estreso’ is a song about always being stressed, always being anxious and thinking that people are mad at you when they really aren’t,” band member Bela Salazar said about the song in a press statement. “It was inspired by listening to a lot of corridos tumbados, banda and Duranguense and doing that in our own punk style.”
The new rocking waltz-like song features an electric guitar, a rhythmic drum pattern, a melodic trumpet, and a tuba carried by the girls’ enthralling vocals. With lyrics like, “Yo me estreso por nada / Tengo demasiada ansiedad / Y pienso que la gente está enojada conmigo / Cuando no están [I get stressed out over nothing / I have too much anxiety / And I think people are mad at me / When they’re not],” the young band members express their inner thoughts. Overall, their harmonizing vocals keep you in a trance as they sing about feeling anxious and overwhelmed – and then realizing it’s all for nothing.
Visually, the band invites us to a circus fantasy as they wear clown makeup and vibrant outfits. The music video also features marionettes, clown heads, and distorted funhouse mirrors as the girls sing about their inner feelings. Towards the end of the video, Yankovic is featured playing the accordion.
Social media users are into the new song. An Instagram user, rosecoloredkay, wrote: “i’ve been waiting for this one since last summer , SO STOKED.” Another Instagram user, grace.mlu, commented: “MY ICONS AND WEIRD AL MY KING?!!!! this is everything.”
Moreover, this isn’t the first time The Linda Lindas have dropped a song in Spanish. They released “Cuántas Veces” as part of their debut album Growing Up in 2022.
The Linda Lindas are currently on tour with Green Day, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Rancid.
