The new version of Menudo has officially made its debut. Today (March 20), the Latine boy band released the music video for their first single, “Mi Amore.”
Mario Lopez unveiled the latest iteration of Menudo today on Good Morning America. The group includes Nicolas Calero (10), Gabriel Rossell (13), Andres Emilio (14), Alejandro Querales (15) and Ezra Gilmore (12). Lopez gave his roses to the group’s original line-ups and talked about their impact before saying he was excited to usher in a new era for the band.
“I thought it would be a great time at this moment to reintroduce them now to a whole new generation when Latin music is hot in the mainstream,” Lopez said. “And we got a great group of kids right here.”
The new Menudo band also released the music video for their debut single, “Mi Amore.” The song was released with an English version and a Spanish version. Backed by brassy tropical production with trap-lite beats, the boys sing about moving on from a girlfriend who didn’t appreciate their relationship. The Latine kiss-off anthem previews an upcoming album from the group that is due out later this year.
The identities of new Menudo band members have been tightly under wraps until today. Earlier this month, Lopez mentioned that he was happy with the boys taking up the mantle for the iconic Latine boy band.
“Deciding on the final five was harder than we ever imagined because there was so much great talent to choose from,” Lopez said. “The five boys we selected gelled together instantly, and the music they’ve created has exceeded all of our expectations. I think we have several massive hits, and I’m more excited than ever to introduce these boys to the world in two weeks.”
According to Billboard, this new version of Menudo will receive shares from “all concert, merchandise, and music revenue.” Previous versions of the band, which included Ricky Martin and Draco Rosa, were allegedly exploited by Menudo’s original founder Edgardo Diaz. Diaz appeared to distance himself from the Menudo brand after sex crime allegations surfaced against him in the HBO Max documentary Menudo: Forever Young.
