One of the most distinguished Puerto Rican reggaeton duos, Wisin & Yandel, are giving their fans the last call. The duo has just announced their final album and tour entitled “La Ultima Mision,” which aims to be a celebration of all their hits and a way to monumentalize their 20th anniversary.
As part of this last album, Wisin & Yandel have already released their second single, “No Se Olvida,” which follows last year’s “Recordar.” When this track dropped, both media and fans speculated about it being the duo’s last project together… And they were right.
“We can’t predict the future but we’re very responsible for the brand and that’s what we want to do in this tour. We want our fans to remember the 2000s hits. More than a goodbye, it’s trajectory,” Wisin said in a press conference about the announcement, according to Billboard.
As mentioned, in parallel to their last album, the 26-date arena show tour is set to start on Sept. 30 in Miami. The tour then makes its way through the U.S., including stops in New York, Texas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, leading to their last finale in the Coliseo de PR Jose Miguel Agrelot on Dec. 2. We can only expect an epic final concert at the duo’s home country Puerto Rico. What other way to end their almost two-decade musical trajectory?
During these 19 years of creating music together, Wisin y Yandel continuously released emblematic and catchy hits such as “Rakata,” “Sexy Movimiento,” and “Me Estas Tentando,” which kept them on repeat on everyone’s playlists. Now, the duo have one last mission to do: release a highly-anticipated last project together. And with it, also give their fans a last tour to commemorate their milestones. As a duo, they’ve received an abundance of prestigious recognitions, including a Grammy award and two Latin Grammy awards.
Additionally, just yesterday (March 15), they received BMI’s “President’s Award,” an award to honor their status as pioneers in el movimiento and their contributions to the Latine music community.
Although this isn’t the first time Wisin y Yandel go on a hiatus (they were separated and created their own legacies between 2013 to 2018), it seems that this time around they’re being definite about it — or at least for now. Could it be that this is the final chapter of their reggaeton era?
In any case, Twitter users are already anticipating the duo’s tour, preparing for it to start.
