On July 13, Apple Music announced their newest addition to their Up Next artist roster. The artist chosen is none other than the emerging family trio Yahritza Y Su Esencia, who’s been on a sky-rocketing rise since the release of their viral hit “Soy El Único.”
“I started singing and like, playing the guitar, because of Mando,” Yahritza says in Apple Music’s short film trailer. “When I would hear him sing, I would love it because it was so like, calming, you know? When I would be little, and I would sing, I would yell – I wouldn’t sing.” Mando then responds, “She would just like sing her lungs out but she’d be on tone. And like, you could feel it.”
For those who don’t know, since their debut single “Soy El Único,” the Regional Mexican outfit rapidly accumulated positive feedback from their audience. In fact, the track debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart and No. 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100. In doing so, Yahritza became the youngest Latine artist to chart on Billboard’s Hot 100.
The same song broke the Apple Music record for the biggest first-week streams globally for a música Mexicana track. Their debut Obsessed EP later broke the Apple Music record for the most first-week streams worldwide under their música Mexicana EP category.
“I love the story behind Yahritza Y Su Esencia, a family band that grew organically online very quick,” Apple Music 1 host Brooke Reese said in a written press statement. “Their authenticity is what makes them so special and we are just seeing the beginning of what is to come from this band as they create romantic and beautiful música Mexicana. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to fall in love with their sound.”
