Your Mix Fix: Marcianos Crew & King Doudou

The word mixtape has plenty of different interpretations. It used to be that mixtapes were actually DJ sets recorded on cassette tapes, but with the coming of the digital music age, the name remained the same, but the definition expanded. Nowadays, people call mixtapes many different things, some of which are not necessarily mixed and most of which were never taped. Here we try to cover them all. In this column, Juan Data gives you a worthy one every week.

DJ: Marcianos Crew & King Doudou
MIXTAPE: Pa Tu Pelo Pincho

Remember Douster? He was a French beat producer who lived in Buenos Aires for a while and hung out with the ZZK crew, had one track included in their second Cumbia Digital compilation, and did a bunch of epic remixes for that label’s artists.
Well, last summer he went back to South America and produced some stuff with hot local artists. Pa Tu Pelo Pincho is the first of those productions and he decided to sign it under the new alter ego of King Doudou.
If you dig the work he’s done in the past with the Chilean new-school rap crew Zonora Point, this one here will get your panties wet for sure. The MC is Marcianos Crew, a true underground legend from the southern outskirts of the Argentine capital. But don’t let the name deceive you, he’s just one guy doing all the rhyming. While many of the riddims will sound very familiar to you, the themes and slang are almost indecipherable for those outside Argentina. One clue: Pelopincho is a popular brand of kiddie pools that became synonymous with ghetto backyard parties.
