Your Mix Fix: StarliteGalaxia

The word mixtape has plenty of different interpretations. It used to be that mixtapes were actually DJ sets recorded on cassette tapes, but with the coming of the digital music age, the name remained the same, but the definition expanded. Nowadays, people call mixtapes many different things, some of which are not necessarily mixed and most of which were never taped. Here we try to cover them all. In this column, Juan Data gives you a worthy one every week.

DJ: StarliteGalaxia
MIXTAPE: Starlite Riki Mix

StarliteGalaxia is the DJing alter-ego of the multitalented Maria Cardona. A Colombian artist, musician, performer, photographer and retro-fashion enthusiast with an exquisite taste for house music and electro (with an expected Latin twist). At least that’s what I’ve been able to gather from her mixtape, and her multible online personas.

Even though her earthling body resides in Bogotá, she pictures her DJing persona as a retro-futuristic superhero from space (there’re are pictures of her spinning with her cape), who comes down to earth to save us mortals with her music.

StarliteGalaxia is now planning to land her spaceship somewhere in the US to bring some of that musical salvation to us as well, so make sure you follow her online to find out about upcoming gigs.
