Your Mix Fix: Viva La Virgen

The word mixtape has plenty of different interpretations. It used to be that mixtapes were actually DJ sets recorded on cassette tapes, but with the coming of the digital music age, the name remained the same, but the definition expanded. Nowadays, people call mixtapes many different things, some of which are not necessarily mixed and most of which were never taped. Here we try to cover them all. In this column, Juan Data gives you a worthy one every week.

DJ: Viva La Virgen
MIXTAPE: Die Laser Titten – Pasado de Moda Mixtape

Everybody likes tits. And lasers. Die Laser Titten is then a great brand name for a girls DJ duo. I’d totally go see them spin every weekend, if only they where closer to home. Unfortunately for me they are from Berlin, Germany.

Viva La Virgen is Jara Aithany, electropical bass DJ associated to the Spanish netlabel Caballito, and she’s part of this new project aptly named Die Laser Titten. This is her second mix tape, Pasado de Moda, where we can listen to a lot of ñu-cumbia remixes from all over Latin America and Europe mixed in with lots of other crazy stuff (La Macarena!) and plenty of laser sound effects (obviously). She reminds me a lot of Argentina’s Alta Joya (the first female DJ featured in this weekly column), not only for her selections, but also because Alta Joya had an admitted propensity to employing the irresistible power of the tits to gain attention.

Forty five minutes of non-stop booty-shaking booby-bouncing hard core action on the dance floor all the way from Alemania!
