We’ve all been waiting for Jay Z to give us a clue as to how he’s feeling about Lemonade. And praise, he’s given us just enough in his verse on the remix for Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s “All the Way Up.” Long story short, Hov and Bey are laughing at you all the way to the bank (always).
So goes his verse:
You know you made it when the fact
Your marriage made it is worth millions
Lemonade is a popular drink and it still is
Survival of the littest
Mind you, this is no disavowal that Jay didn’t spend a few months sleeping on the couch, or that he doesn’t still break into cold sweats when Queen B catches him cruising girls with “good hair.” But undoubtedly, he’s telling us that the marriage is still in one piece and like basically everything else in their lives, hip-hop’s “A” marrieds have turned the squall into bank. “Survival of the littest” – words to live by.
The song also signals the official end of the Jay-Fat Joe beef that’s been lingering around rumor sites for the last decade. The two just gave face for some photos backstage — at the Formation tour, natch (we can all agree that the cross promotion here deserves awards).
Terror squad rapper Cuban Link recently gave an interview in which he addressed the history of the rivalry:
“One of the tours that we was doing, they had a little private meeting. And I think it’s cause of after that situation happened. Joe and Pun went to meet him inside a room…In Jay-Z’s defense, at the end of the day Jay-Z did see me one time in a DMX listening party. And he came up to me and he said ‘Yo Cuban.’ And I said ‘Yeah, what’s up baby?’ He goes, ‘At the end of the day it was never personal.’ Even with Pun, Pun’s beef with Jay was never personal it was more of what Joe was implicating and putting in his head. It was more jealousy towards Jay.”
Fat Joe and Remy Ma debuted the “All the Way Up” remix at Yankee Stadium on May 24 during the game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The two wore matching jerseys and seemed to enjoy the premiere of the beef-squashing baby.
