In anticipation of the release of his upcoming A$AP Yams-inspired album, Yams Heard This, Bodega Bamz has dropped his take on consecrated anthem “Waiting For Tonight.” JLo’s classic, however, has little of the phone-tag nastiness, and Usher puns through which Nathaniel De La Rosa cycles, in his new single. Beat changes masterminded by producers Blvck Rose and Ariel reflect the narrator’s ambivalent feelings towards a relationship.

Speaking of, the Spanish Harlem rapper has certainly been teasing the gossips this summer. The song’s promo images feature fellow NYC emcee Princess Nokia in a Puerto Rican flag bikini and series of lightly kinky poses—and they’re not the first flirty post from the two.

Remember that we’re in the regressive countdown to the August 21st release of Yams Heard This, which the rapper says is inspired by the knowledge imparted by the A$AP Mob founder passed on to him before he died.

“If he was still alive today, I know he would have loved the vibe and energy of this album and would have given me his stamp of approval,” Bamz said in a statement that accompanied the LP’s lead single, the trap taunt “Who U With.”

Bodega Bamz lays claim to the term “Latin trap,” which he says he dreamed up with collaborator and brother DJ Ohla back in 2010 or ’11. “You can look it up,” he told Remezcla in 2016. “Before me no one was saying Latin trap.” Bamz’ last major release was his 2019 collaborative EP with Salaam Remi, Bodega’s Way.
