Carnival celebrations in Barranquilla, Colombia will go into full swing on February 6. To get us hype for the four-day weekend, Bomba Estéreo‘s Simón Mejía pays tribute to Joe Arroyo, El Rey del Carnaval, with a selection of his biggest hits.
Here’s what Mejía had to say about the collection of songs:
“Joe [Arroyo] was El Rey del Carnaval – the Colombian tropical rock star. He was one of the first artists to explore fusions between Colombian folk music and other genres. He was also a king of the stage. He shares the salsa crown [with] legends like Héctor Lavoe and Celia Cruz. His music is immortal and will make people dance in the tropics forever.”
