2014 was a breakout year for Catalan songstress Brigitte Laverne. Not only did she release a buzzy set of songs highlighted by Spotify, she also had the distinct honor of being the only Spaniard invited to 2014’s Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo. It should then come as no surprise that the release of her new single “Touch” is getting people worked up all over again.

Though it’s still in line with Laverne’s retro sensibilities, the new track’s driving beat pushes it forward into chic and modern territory. The vocals are still wispy, with a teenage quality about them, but the music feels current, reminiscent of fellow girl synth-poppers like MNDR and BFlecha. “Touch” is an exciting musical update, indicative of Brigitte’s own artistic growth while also shunning the generic 80s label. Let’s hope for a lot more new music from Barcelona’s burgeoning pop princess.
