Calexico has always been a band difficult to categorize thanks to their fearless propensity for branching out into various genres. The sextet has written and performed songs in Americana, post-rock, Tex-Mex, indie rock…the list goes on. Their latest foray into experimentation and diversity jumps straight into digital cumbia territory.
“Cumbia De Donde” is the first track off their upcoming album Edge Of The Sun and features Amparanoia (a.k.a. Amparo Sánchez) on Spanish vocals. It’s a danceable upbeat and hopefully a perfect sign of what’s to come in an album packed with guests artists including Neko Case, Iron & Wine, and Carla Morrison.
