Last time we checked up on Dro Fé, he was transforming his brand of Narcowave flow into a clothing line. Given El Chapo’s recent arrest and unending media presence, Dro’s new joint couldn’t come at a better time.
After debuting in 2013 with his first Narcowave tape, Fé moved from the Rio Grande Valley part of Texas to hip-hop hotspot Atlanta, the home of another one of our favorite Latino MCs: Kap G. If “Re-Up” is any indication, the move has proved fruitful, since he’s hooked up with Atlanta rapper 21 Savage to swap verses. ILoveMakonnen and Future collaborator Sonny Digital has teamed up with DJ Fu from Ear Drummers to craft the hypnotic beat. “Re-Up” opens with some bouncy piano chords before giving way to trappy snare rolls, while Dro and 21 Savage talk the Narcowave lifestyle and things get popping.
If you’re in Austin for SXSW, check out Dro Fe at Meccalani’s showcase at Speakeasy Kabaret tonight. Either way, get hype for the third installment in the Narcowave saga, which drops next month.
