The wide-open space and dry air of the American southwest consummately lends itself to wondrous, hope-filled night drives – often better enjoyed from the comfort of oversized, gaudy vintage convertibles. There’s something inherently special about the moment the golden desert sunset transitions from twilight into night, when possibilities abound. It’s those first moments of night time that bring the most promise, and in Girl Ultra’s new video for “Dame Love,” (“Give Me Love”) the promise of a satiating after-hours adventure lead the 24-year-old Mexican R&B singer and California wunderkind Cuco to embark on a hazy, sensuous sing-along road trip.
Themes of friendship and unrequited infatuation dot the number, with Girl Ultra eventually telling her friend to come through, making clear her true yearning: “I’m in the mood for some Jack in the Box. Podemos fumar.”
The video, which was directed by Alexis Gomez, is the second from Girl Ultra’s upcoming album, Nuevos Aires, and is a pivot away from the futuristic themes of her recent single, Ella,Tu, y Yo.
Along with the new album, Girl Ultra will also head out on a short U.S. tour over the summer.
