Joey LaBeija is back with a fresh edit to coincide with the revival of his aptly-titled Legendary party series, which briefly went on hiatus so that he could focus on composing his record. That album is slated to drop soon.
LaBeija’s latest is a drumline edit of the unmistakable melody from El Abayarde‘s “Pa’ Que Retozen,” chopped up with Divoli S’vere’s tough “Serving You,” ballroom samples, and snippets of TLC’s “Silly Ho” for a “violent pussy re-edit.” It’s just a preview of the cut-and-paste aesthetic of the party, as well as LaBeija’s signature style. It embraces a distorted, relentlessly subversive approach to the club that you can either love or leave.
Now with all of the loose ends tied for the album, the party is back this Friday at Cameo Gallery. LaBeija will play back-to-back with Dicap. The lineup also features Abby, Byrell the Great, False Witness, a special yet-to-be-announced live performer, and hosts Witches of Bushwick. Tickets are $10, don’t sleep on this boundary-pushing party.
