Kap G Dodges the Feds & Haters With Young Thug in His “Don’t Need Em” Video

Kap G takes it back to the homeland in his latest set of visuals for the Young Thug-assisted “Don’t Need Em.” The El Southside standout cut, produced by Devon Wyatt and Squat Beats, is all about evading the fakes and naysayers along the hard-earned road to success. In the Be El Be-directed video, Kap seems to be evading something else, too – he leads the authorities on a wild chase through Mexico, dodging in and out of lush gardens and scenic mountaintops. The clip ends in a cliffhanger – almost literally, with Kap perched atop a precipice as the sun has already gone down – letting you draw your own conclusions on whether or not Kap escaped the drama unscathed.

In this era of email collaborations, it’s refreshing to see Thugger come through and lend his support for the video as well. It’s a major cosign for fellow ATLien Kap G as his profile rises on a national scale. Kap G is another voice helping Latinos to regain a foothold in the field of American hip-hop.

Before he was dodging the feds in Mexico, Kap G took a trip with Remezcla to D.F. to get in touch with his roots. The American-raised MC didn’t have much knowledge of Mexican or Latino culture growing up in College Park, Georgia. However, his Mexican identity clearly plays an important role in shaping his approach to music. As Latinos in the U.S. and Mexico are continuing to leave their fingerprints on the rap game, we’ll be watching them integrate each others’ styles into their respective works.
