It’s been a minute since we’ve heard new material from this beloved Batucada Freak, but it’s been worth all the wait to hear what Brazilian emcee Karol Conka has had in the works. Staying true to her sing-songy hip-hop roots, the young artist takes “Tombei” to more urgent, maximalist 808 bass territory thanks to Tropikillaz stepping up to production duties. Without overwhelming the listener, the crew left some room for the track to breathe where Conka’s Afro-Brazilian ties shine bright, balancing with bursts of Afro-Brazilian tambores and quick tamborzão breaks.
