Born and based in Los Angeles, 22-year-old artist August Eve has impressed the music world with only a handful of songs, all included in two double singles, 2016’s Ghost and 2019’s You Already Know. She takes control of the deck and instruments in her own songs, which are moving dream-pop-leaning numbers where every element is arranged to make her smoky voice and honest lyrics shine through. Her classical and contemporary pop influences permeate her work, as well as her choral background, which we’re sure is responsible for the most chill-inducing moments in her music.

Supported by Diplo’s Mad Decent imprint, August Eve is now ready to unleash her first EP, Ashes In a Vase, but before it drops, she has now shared its first single.

“Ashes,” the fourth track on Ashes In a Vase, finds August Eve pouring her soul over a lost relationship. She is backed by a simple beat with bongo accents, foggy synth pads, and an exquisite string arrangement that sends us flying like the wind blowing a leaf up in the air. Her voice’s deep tone sounds affecting, making us think of a more dramatic Sade who had Beach House on rotation back in the days. But she definitely stands on her own two feet, taking a new step towards cementing her own signature style, as she does with every new release.

With “Ashes,” August Eve is only giving us a taste of the lovely six-track Ashes In a Vase, which is already gearing up to be her most heart-melting output to date.
