We’re really feeling Martox‘s cover of Australian singer-songwriter Ry Cuming‘s “Always Remember Me.” The folky original already had moving qualities, standing somewhere between Damien Rice and José González, and the Dominican duo, which consists of Juan Miguel Martínez and Eduardo Baldera Gil, kept its melancholy spirit while adding enough electronic programming to make it their own. The fingerpicked guitar and the boy/girl harmonies are still there, but they’re drenched in reverb, and the beat they introduced turns it into a radio-ready pop number.
This is just a sample of Martox’s love for reinterpreting other people’s music, and they’re working on an EP of covers that’s due later this year.
