Rathero’s “Gatas Abajo” is Emblematic Moombahton

Maybe it’s too early to say that a production bears a “classic moombahton feel.” But Rathero‘s latest single “Gatas Abajo” does blend the vibes of hook-driven pop reggaeton with steamrolling bass lines and bright synth-chord progressions. Thus, it’s a clear refresh of the style that five years ago allowed tropical bass to once again emerge in the American underground. Rathero is Cincinnati based and Peru born, so the blend of influences clearly makes sense. A track that’s meant to sound like a tiger on the prowl certainly does that, and alongside his recent Achori Sound EP release via Mad Decent-related Latin label Mal Dicen Records, greater attention deserves to be paid to his sounds.
