Brand new Stockholm label Staycore just put out their inaugural release, a killer bass-heavy EP titled No Hay Break by none other than Dinamarca, the imprint’s co-founder. The five-track EP is filled with collaborations from around the world, including names like GNUCCI, Zutzut, DJ New Jersey Drone, Al T4riq, and Kassandra.
The songs on No Hay Break sound skeletal in elements, but they are truly effective when it comes to making bodies move. He explores Caribbean rhythms in a sort of dark manner, just as like-minded producers from Fade to Mind or NAAFI do. So, we get his interpretation of ragga and dancehall on “A.M.A.B.,” then “Zorna,” a dembow number that turns into something that resembles breakcore, and the soca-informed greatness of “Battle Trak.” Original vocals are present, like on the closing track “How About,” but there are also samples, like the one from the hilarious track “Me dicen la culisuelta” on “Descontrol.” Keep them coming, Dinamarca and Staycore!
