One of Mexico’s more ambitious DJ-style cumbia acts, Sonido San Francisco, is back, this time under the name La Sonora San Francisco. “Misa de Gallo,” their first single, maintains a full winds section, but focuses less on lyrics and more on electronic arrangements. The track pays homage to the misa de gallo ceremony on Christmas Eve and the artists’ personal experiences surrounding it.
We can only assume that this new incarnation of the band took shape to simplify live performances, but this also allows La Sonora San Francisco to give us something we can listen to on our headphones while we wait for their live set.
