Hailing from London, TroyBoi just put out the first of a series of releases he’s dropping via Mad Decent this year, and he’s enlisted the help of some collaborators. For “Afterhours,” he recruited label honcho and constant hitmaker Diplo, and our beloved Nina Sky. The trio joins forces to create an elegant soundtrack for that late night moment when the party is fading.
The beat is dark and sensuous, sounding crisp and heavily influenced by hip-hop. It features fat bass pads, little accordion-like stabs, and a couple of Speak & Spell samples. The drop is huge, and it sounds like it comes straight out of Diplo’s playbook. Meanwhile, sisters Nicole and Natalie Albino adorn the song with their vocals, giving it that extra special something. “I just wanna dance among the stars,” they sing, transporting us to after hours at the club.
