Santiago, Chile remains a hotbed of musical activity to this day, and we’re going to say that exact statement for as long as it remains true. The latest band to make waves across the alt-Latino sphere is pop duo Marineros. Constanza Espina and Soledad Puentes received critical praise in Spanish daily El País, and are so good that none other than Javiera Mena has adopted them as their fairy madrina.
The adoration is well deserved as anyone who’s listened to their “pop music about love and existentialism,” as they’ve described it. Their latest single, “Cae La Noche,” is the third single off their upcoming debut album. The music is simple, for lack of a better term, in the sense that the duo creates a catchy, dense atmosphere with nothing but vocals, a programmer, and a guitar.
The video by director Alvaro Puentes riffs on cell phones as a matchmakers. Has any couple married thanks to Tinder yet? We’re not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad considering the video’s conclusion.
