Watch: Mall Nostalgia in La Pequeña Revancha’s “Espejo”

Venezuelan duo La Pequeña Revancha‘s debut EP, Falsos Amigos, came out two years ago already, and they have earned notable recognition in their native country ever since. It’s a little folk-pop gem that caught people by surprise, partly because one half of the band is Carlos Olmedillo, the lead singer and guitarist of the surf punk band Los Mentas. But the music stands on its own, showcasing their ability to create lovely tracks with darker subtexts.

The first single they released back then was “Espejo,” and now it finally has a video treatment. Directed by the band’s own Claudia Lizardo, alongside Israel Rojas, the music video shows carefully picked static shots of a popular Caraquenian department store, displaying its little details and curiosities, and a familiarity that feels both tedious and endearing at the same time. It’s only by the end of the video, after the store’s staff set their rig up, when we see the band performing the last bit of the song.
