Ponce Shares a Gloomy Piano Cover of Major Lazer & DJ Snake’s Hit “Lean On”

Ponce’s dark style permeates many of his compositions — take for example his first albums as a solo artist, the EP El Muerto and the LP El Viejo. This time, Ponce takes that gloomy style to a version of Major Lazer & DJ Snakes’s hit “Lean On.”

Ponce strips the song of its danceable beat and MØ’s processed vocals to deliver a more organic and raw version. He seems comfortable using his voice as the center of his cover, and he manages to actually make the lyrics sound serious. His piano expertise shines in the video, another standout of this somber version of the song.

These days, Ponce is working on a video. A month ago, he teased his Facebook followers with rumors of “new music and an exciting release.” In the meantime, you can enjoy his cover and a piano version of his song “Mi Viejo.” If you want to get to know him better, check out our interview with him from last year.
