Last time we heard about Costa Rican noise rock band Colornoise, it was 2013 and they were releasing a cool video that came to be one of the most praised in Costa Rica at the time. That same year, their sophomore record ended up on the Best Of lists of two local webzines. Oh, and back then, they were a duo.
Now, Colornoise has put out a new single with a brand new member, to boot. Mari Navarro has joined Sonya Carmona and Alison Alvarado to play the synthesizer, do some backing vocals, and to produce some samples. Listening to the song you get the feeling this new concept is a winner.
In “Amalie” – a song they claim is about “loving the impossible” – the trio steps away from the distorted loudness they’ve come to be known for and delivers a more poppy song, a taste of a new phase to come for the band. You can find in the single some signs of that early, shameless fierceness, but also a band that demonstrates how much they love taking risks.
