As high-spirited as Houston Astros fans were during a parade on Monday (November 7) to celebrate their team’s World Series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, one thing many of them didn’t seem to be excited about was the presence of one specific politician in the procession.

During the parade, Texas Senator Ted Cruz rode on the back of a Humvee and waved to the crowd lined up on the streets of downtown Houston. Cruz didn’t get a warm welcome, however. Instead, in a video captured during the parade, plenty of boos can be heard as Cruz’s military vehicle drives by. There are also a few people in the crowd giving the congressman a thumbs down and even flipping him off.

In another video, Cruz is hit with a beer can that comes flying towards him. It seemed like Cruz and his bodyguard managed to deflect the can before it hit him, but the Houston Police Department (HPD) stated that he was struck in the “chest/neck” area with the object.

HPD tweeted that afternoon that a 33-year-old man was arrested at the parade for hitting the senator. “The Senator did not require medical attention,” the tweet read. “Nearby HPD officers arrested the male without further incident. He was taken to jail and faces assault charges.”

Ted Cruz is no stranger to jeers coming in his direction. Last month, he was booed by New York Yankees fans when he showed up to a game during their American League Championship Series against the Astros. Let’s face it. When you’re as easy to mock as Cruz is, it’s kind of hard to avoid.
