Boxing Promoter to Shut Down Trump Nonsense With All-Latino Undercard

Boxing promoter Bob Arum plans to take a swing at Donald Trump with a badass all-Hispanic undercard in his next big pay-per-view fight: Manny Pacquiao’s third (and probably final, given that our Filiprimo might soon retire) meeting with Timothy Bradley on April 9 in Las Vegas. Arum himself has dubbed it “the Donald Trump undercard.” YES.

“I want them [the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants that Trump proposed to deport] to know there are a lot of people that have their backs and are not going to allow them to be deported,” he said. “And if Trump got elected, I would be in the streets with them protesting.”

This is a smart and savvy play by Arum, who no doubt realizes the sway that Mexican-American boxing fans have as the backbone of his sport’s passionate fan base. And hey, what better way to send legendary Filipino warrior Pacman off into the mythical realms of world boxing history?

Mexican featherweight Óscar Valdez, Mexican middleweight Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez, and Mexican-American U.S. Olympian Jose Ramírez have all been named as top Latino prospects expected to appear. A press conference specifically dedicated to the undercard will take place the Wednesday following Super Bowl 50 (February 10). We’re starting our countdown now.
