Brazilian Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna is one of the most famous drivers to have ever been behind the wheel. Though he lost his life in an accident in 1994, his legacy has lived on in other ways. Now, fans of the driver can take home his legacy thanks to the LEGO Company.
Working with the Senna brand and McLaren, fans can now take home the LEGO Icons set that features his legendary McLaren MP4/4 racecar. The set also includes a smiling Ayrton Senna minifigure with a podium to stand and a helmet and trophy to hold. On the podium is an actual photo of Senna with a quote from him that says, “No matter what your dream is, you have to dedicate yourself entirely to it.”
The car itself is complete with detailed features that include a detailed turbocharged V6 engine and steering that actually works, making it the perfect way to bring the beloved racecar to life. It also has stands for the racecar and podium that explores details of the car. Sadly, it’s unclear if the set will be available in Senna’s home country of Brazil.
A driver like Ayrton Senna, whose radiant positivity made him almost criticism-proof, comes once in a lifetime, and the fanbase that has remained loyal since his tragic passing is evidence of that. Now, with a new LEGO set on the way, it serves as a chance for longtime fans to celebrate him and for younger fans of F1 to be introduced to another racing icon.
The LEGO Icons McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna set is available for pre-order now on the LEGO site and will cost $79.99. There’s no set release date yet. But some sites are reporting March 1st.
