An image of a sad man clutching a Copa de Mundo trophy after Germany’s 7-1 defeat of Brazil at the 2014 World Cup made a star out of superfan Clovis Acosta Fernandes. The diehard fan, Gaúcho da Copa, has died, according to The Independent. Acosta Fernandes followed Brazil to 60 different countries and attended more than 150 games. He had followed the team since 1990. Though his sad face is what people may most remember about him, The Independent reports that he gave his replica trophy to a German fan. He supposedly said, “Take it to the final! As you can see, it is not easy, but you deserve it, congratulations!”
