Caitlin Cosme has made history. With the Women’s World Cup coming up and interest in the sport at an all-time high, it feels like the perfect moment.
The 27-year-old Puerto Rican defender has become the first boricua in Women’s Super League history after joining Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace Football Club Women is a women’s association football club based in South London, England. The team competes in the Women’s Super League, the top tier of English women’s football, and is known as the “Eagles.”
Manager Jo Potter said of Cosme, “It’s great to have Caitlin join us at Palace for our return to the top flight,” adding, “She will bring a lot of experience and quality to our backline in the WSL.”
Cosme said after joining the team, “Everyone has been so welcoming so far and I’m excited to just immerse myself in this club and in this community.”
The team is currently fifth in the Super League and plays Tottenham on Sunday, September 20, in its next game.
Cosme previously played for the Duke University Blue Devils, where she won one ACC title. Orlando Pride drafted her 10th overall in the 2022 NWSL Draft. She later played in Iceland and France.
Cosme played for the United States national team at the under-14 and under-15 levels, but in 2025 made her debut with the Puerto Rico national team against Guatemala.
