FEMEXFUT President Decio de María has launched a new campaign against the “eeh puto” cry called “Abrazados por el fútbol,” which invites fans to register and join a group against discrimination of all forms.
It’s described as a “collective effort that includes all of la familia del fútbol mexicano to promote respect for others and reject physical and verbal violence.” It already has almost 100 signatories in its first minutes of existence, including the support of Mexican internationals Héctor Herrera, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, Andrés Guardado, and Rafael Márquez among others, as seen in the video above.
It’s time to transform this team into the equipo de todos that it’s meant to be. Garnering visible and open support from the futbolistas on the team is a huge step towards eradicating the “eeh puto” chant for good.
