Chicharito Fell Down The Stairs, And Now He’ll Miss the Next Two Weeks of Games

After an amazing first season in Germany, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez’s sophomore campaign’s getting off to an unlucky start. Today, Bayer Leverkusen announced that the striker broke the metacarpal bone in his right hand after falling down the stairs in his apartment. He had emergency surgery at Merheim Clinic, and he’ll be out for at least two weeks, the team said in a statement. Leverkusen summed up the unfortunate news on Twitter pretty accurately with a sad face emoji.

It’s possible that he’ll only miss the first game of the Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach. So far, his team has played one match in a cup game. He scored in the first round of the German Cup against SC Hauenstein. But as Sports Illustrated points out, this injury will also keep him sidelined when Mexico faces off against El Salvador on September 2 and Honduras on September 6 during World Cup qualifiers. But because El Tri is already in first place and can’t be caught, it shouldn’t make too much of a difference.

Hopefully, his biggest fan isn’t too disappointed.
