Why would a football team have a Spotify playlist? We have no clue, but that’s exactly what Mexican club Cruz Azul has done. A quick look at the team’s website reveals a Spotify playlist widget embedded in the lower left corner. One mouse-click later reveals that the playlist is an official one titled “Estadio Azul” created by the team’s organization. Say what?!
The playlist is packed with popular songs from the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s, and the current decade. There’s “The Power Of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News, “1979” by Smashing Pumpkins, “Champion” by Matisyahu, “Welcome To The Jungle” by Guns ‘n Roses, “Whoop! (There It Is)” by Tag Team, “Recess” by Skrillex, and a ton of other hits.
Hmm, our guess is that these are all the jams the sound crew blasts through the stadium’s speakers before games and during halftime.
