The LA Galaxy has the most potent offense in Major League Soccer. This we know. 42 goals in 25 games is a formidable feat (the next closest total is the Columbus Crew’s 38 in 24).
But what happens when you add another tested international attacker to the mix?
Well, to the delight of a sellout crowd of 27,000 at the StubHub Center, Giovani Dos Santos got his MLS campaign off to an absolute dream start on Sunday, contributing a goal and an assist in LA’s 3–1 comeback victory over Seattle after the visitors took a surprise lead less than a minute into the game. Dos Santos started up top with Robbie Keane, leaving Gyasi Zardes to roam the right flank and eventually float towards the center to combine with the two forwards.
Dos Santos’ assist came 90 seconds into the second half with the score level at one apiece. AJ DeLaGarza broke down the right wing and played a well-placed low cross into the box. The Mexican received it, and played a perfect one-touch layoff to Keane, who put the Galaxy ahead for good. In the 64th, it was Keane’s turn to assist his new dynamic attacking duo. The club captain sent a gorgeous through ball into Dos Santos down the left wing, who blew past Seattle’s attempt at an offside trap before blasting a shot towards the far post and into the back of the net from a tough angle. A goal to make David Beckham stand up in his VIP box, that’s for sure.
Dos Santos had the following to say after the win: “I think we have a lot of possibilities. We can achieve every goal we want. We have a great team with a great attitude and great players. We’re looking forward to do a great year. Hopefully, we can get a title.” LA is currently two points off of Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and will play its next game at FC Dallas this Saturday.
