Chelsea keeps making history, and the beneficiary is once again, a player from our communities. Moisés Caicedo, the 21-year-old rising star of the Ecuadorian football team is joining the English side in a record-breaking transfer. Chelsea will pay £100m for Caicedo, plus £15m in performance-related add-ons. To give more context, Caicedo turned down a £111m move to Liverpool to join Chelsea.

His contract broke a record set recently when Chelsea paid £106.8m Chelsea for Enzo Fernandez, one of the stars of Argentina’s World Cup-winning team. Fernandez is 22, Caicedo 21. Caicedo’s deal reportedly extends until 2031, with an option for 2032. Fernandez’s deal is also set to expire in 2031. That’s a lot of years of the two anchoring Chelsea’s midfield.

Fans are already looking forward to seeing Enzo and Caicedo play together.

Some fans even called having the two in the same midfield “a cheat code,” but if anything, it’s one Chelsea paid a lot of money to make sure they were in possession of.

His star rose after a very good showing by the Ecuadorian national team in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Caicedo became the youngest player from Ecuador to ever score in a World Cup. Now, he’ll be at one of the most renowned teams in the world.

Caicedo joins a Chelsea team that has spent over a billion in the last three transfer windows, in a bid to recapture the magic that has made Chelsea one of the most celebrated teams in the Premier League. The team finished 12th last season and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

He reportedly also underwent medical tests in London today and is expected to be announced as a new signing for the team in the next few hours.

It’s been a magical year for Moisés Caicedo and hopefully, it’s just the beginning.
