After a week of scandal, FIFA President Joseph Blatter – who just days ago won his 5th term reelection – has announced that he is resigning.
“FIFA’s interests are dear to me. That’s why I have taken this decision. What counts most for me, is the institution of FIFA and football around the world” stated the now ex-FIFA President. Blatter also said he would work on reform before he completely steps down.
FIFA stated that there will be an “extraordinary congress” to elect a new FIFA President between December of 2015 and March 2016.
“We need a limitation on mandates and terms of office. I have fought for these changes but my efforts have been counteracted,” Blatter said.
