Giovani Dos Santos received a hero’s welcome at LAX yesterday, as eager and enthusiastic LA Galaxy fans showed up in droves to welcome the Mexican international forward to his new club soccer home.
The loveable 26-year-old penned the following heartfelt letter to the city of Los Angeles upon his arrival, which can be found in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times Sports Section:
“Los Angeles,
I am overjoyed to tell you that I will be coming to Los Angeles to play for the LA Galaxy.
As you know, soccer is a journey. My journey has taken me to incredible places around the world and now the journey has brought me to you and the city of Los Angeles.
You have supported me when I donned the colors of Barcelona, Tottenham, Villarreal and Mexico. You have cheered me on in a number of memorable matches that I have played in this great city.
And now, I am excited to play for you as an LA Galaxy player. I look forward to your support when I put on the LA Galaxy jersey for the first time and make my MLS debut at StubHub Center this August.
I am excited about what the future holds for us in LA. See you soon.
Un abrazo,
Giovani”
Dos Santos has 17 goals in 90 caps with Mexico, and most recently featured in two Gold Cup matches as a substitute. With more consistent playing time under Galaxy coach Bruce Arena, the hope is that Gio can excite the home crowds while also regaining a regular spot with El Tri.
His heavily anticipated MLS debut will likely take place against the Seattle Sounders on Sunday.
