Guilty Conscience? Messi Donates Half a Million Euro to UNICEF

Messi just donated more than half a million dollars through his Fundacion Leo Messi to UNICEF Argentina. The donation comes just after the Argentine was involved in a couple of scandals, which might lead some to believe he is doing some damage control, or at least, trying to get some peace of mind.

In a friendly game against Roma, Messi slightly head-butted and grabbed Rome player Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa by the neck pretty aggressively. The incident surprised the world, as the Rosario kid is not known for being a hot head.

But what might really might have really set off the generous donation is how much shit he got from his visit to Gabon and his consequent meeting of the Gabonese president, the heir to a fifty year dictatorship. The Human Rights Foundation criticized Messi on an official press release, even questioning the credibility of the Argentine’s charitable foundations.

So Leo Messi, a shy guy in interviews who prefers to talk on the field, once again used his actions instead of his words. If put to good use, that half a million dollars can really do some good.
