Rumors Suggest Iker Casillas Is Headed to New York City FC

A source has told ESPN FC that Iker Casillas – yes, San Iker Casillas – is being targeted by New York City FC. Remember almost a year ago to the day when we wrote in response to the madridista legend expressing his interest in someday playing in the U.S.? Yeah, that day might just be upon us fam.

At 34 years old, Casillas has done it all; he’s won five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, two Euros, and a World Cup. When it comes to being prolific, he’s more often than not the man for the job. His teams win games.

NYC FC’s inaugural season fell short of spectacular on the success spectrum – they accumulated a dismal 10-7-17 record and sat eighth in the Eastern Conference – a jarring reality that’s led to the start of a total roster revolution. Iker (who has just over a year left on his current contract with Porto) would fit right in with the high-profile, star-studded cast set to take center stage at Yankee Stadium under Patrick Vieira. We wouldn’t mind watching the star team up with David Villa, Andrea Pirlo, and Frank Lampard either.
