Jackson Chourio, only 22, is making history and is on the brink of more.

Chourio, who was on the Venezuelan team that won the World Baseball Classic earlier this year, leads off for a Milwaukee Brewers team now one win away from the organization’s first World Series trophy. And Chourio hasn’t just been along for the ride; he’s been a big part of getting his team here.

Take game three of the World Series, where he became the youngest player to record four hits in a World Series game since Joe Garagiola in 1946. That’s a long time ago. He’s the fifth-youngest ever to do it, but the other four, Freddie Lindstrom, Garagiola, Ty Cobb, and Donie Bush, all did it over 80 years ago.

Cobb also recorded a stolen base in his 4-hit game, just like Chourio. That makes his record even more remarkable, since Cobb, who went on to become one of baseball’s best players, achieved it in 1908.

He’s made history in other ways, too. He hit eight leadoff postseason home runs before his 23rd birthday, two more than anyone in history. And his World Series stats put him in the running for series MVP: a .571 batting average, eight total hits, four runs scored, three stolen bases, and two RBIs.

This follows a superb third season in MLB, in which Chourio hit .291 with 152 hits, 25 home runs, and 23 stolen bases.

“I was ready,” Chourio said after the game through an interpreter. “I was ready, and I wanted to win today.”

Can the Brewers win the Championship? Jackson Chourio will be out there, trying to win that ring for Milwaukee as the Brewers and Rays play Game 4 tonight at 8:00 PM ET.
