Nothing beats having the right training partner. For Leylah Fernandez, who’s eyeing a 2022 that will hopefully be just as successful as a 2021 that saw her reach the US Open final and ascend to number 24 in the WTA rankings, it might just make the difference between dreading the preparation and actually enjoying it.

Fernandez shared a picture of herself training with her younger sister Bianca, 17. The tweet opens with the phrase “having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of.” Leyla then goes on to say that “training with Bianca and getting to share the love of tennis with her has been amazing.”

Bianca Fernandez is currently ranked 929th in the WTA rankings.

“Enjoying every moment we get to spend together before the season,” the tweet also reads.

Fernandez hasn’t confirmed when her 2022 season will start, but she’s almost certain to see action in the first Grand Slam of the season, which is set to begin Monday, January 17th, in Australia. She has never progressed past the first round in the Australian Open, but now she’s got the advantage of experience, and a top 32 seeding, which will at least give her a better show at success as she faces the next season.

And, perhaps soon, she can look up and face her sister in actual competition, and not just as a training partner.
