2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez is not done doing amazing – and new – things this year. A month after a remarkable US Open run that saw her reach the finals after beating 3 of the top 5 ranked women in the sport, Fernandez is set to lead team Canada into the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup, the premier international team competition in women’s tennis.

She will be joined on the Canadian team by Gabriela Dabrowski, Rebecca Marino, and Francoise Abanda.

Fernandez made headlines last month by becoming just the fourth Canadian to play in a Grand Slam singles final. Earlier in 2021 she also won her first WTA title – the Monterrey Open. She’s now ranked 28th in the world.

The Billie Jean King Cup is the world’s largest annual women’s international team sports competition. The finals are set to take place from November 1-6 at the P2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic. The twelve teams in the finals have been divided into 4 groups, and the four winners will progress to the semi-finals and then the finals.

Canada’s group consists of France and the RTA (Russian Tennis Federation).
