Get ready to dive deep into your pockets if you want to see Lionel Messi play fútbol. Ticket prices are soaring in Miami now that the Argentine superstar has signed with Inter Miami CF in the MLS.

Although it is not yet known when Messi will take the field with his new club, the NBC affiliate in Miami is reporting that tickets to see an upcoming Inter Miami match are now 16 times more expensive than they were before Messi joined the team earlier this week.

TMZ says the average price for a home game has gone from $15 to $230, which is a 1,398% increase.

Messi announced on Wednesday (June 7) that he was making the move to Inter Miami, which is expected to make him the highest-paid player in MLS. “I’ve made the decision to go to Miami” he said. “I still haven’t closed it 100% percent. I’m missing some things, but we decided to continue on the path. If the Barcelona thing didn’t work out, I wanted to leave Europe, get out of the spotlight and think more of my family.”

Messi’s influence on the sport of fútbol couldn’t be more evident based on how fans are reacting to his move to Miami. He was already a world-renowned player and his stock rose even higher late last year when he led Argentina to a 2022 World Cup victory over France.

Some fútbol fans were lucky and purchased tickets to an Inter Miami game before Messi signed.

If you were already an Inter Miami season ticket holder, you probably had a good day on Wednesday.

Some fans are contemplating how they are going to pay for such expensive tickets to see him play.

Inter Miami ticket prices weren’t the only thing that rose this week. The club saw its following on Instagram rise by 4.5 million people.

The Messi Effect is real.
