Update, 4/14/2016, 5:10 p.m.: Though reports from Costa Rica’s La Nación and Spain’s SPORT suggest that Susana Modric de Aravina was the cousin of Luka Modric, the Real Madrid star has confirmed that they are not related.
Unthinkable violence has taken yet another victim in El Salvador. This time, it’s Susana Modric de Aravina, the 40-year-old cousin of Real Madrid star Luka Modric.
La Nación reports that news of Susana’s kidnapping first surfaced on Monday, April 11. Just two days later, her body was found in the trunk of a car in Villa Real de Cuscatancingo. While the reasons behind her terrible death remain unknown, some speculate that someone tried to rob her, which in turn resulted in her murder.
A dual citizen of the United States and Germany, Croatia-born Susana lived in El Salvador for six years since relocating to San Miguel with her husband at the time. The two later separated, but economic troubles eventually led her to La Constitución, where she held a position in a call center.
This news comes only months after an unknown assailant shot and killed Alfredo Pachecho, a former El Salvador and New York Red Bull defender, at a gas station while he vacationed in his native country. One can only hope that these record deadly numbers are resolved in the near future.
